Shamrock Garden Elementary Open House, Dec 12

Mark the calendar for our next Magnet Open House, December 12 at Noon. For Plaza Midwood, that we have a neighborhood school in our midst is a treasure. Having a Learning Immersion Kindergarten Teacher with six years of experience at that school is a treasure. Having small classes at the kindergarten level is a treasure! Come see. Thanks, Lib Willard, outgoing PTA President, Shamrock Gardens Elementary

TIME TO TANGLEFOOT!!!

Friends and neighbors,

It is COLD, the leaves are mostly DOWN, and it is TIME TO TANGLEFOOT! Heat up the gooey stuff and spread some on your traps (bands). Tell your neighbors. Call your friends. Get those trees protected from the cankerworms now! Waiting to tanglefoot may result in LOTS OF BUGS walking over your traps uncaught! If you must wait until after Thanksgiving, please do it SOON after. If you still need to put up a trap, materials are available at your local hardware store.
Thank you for helping out with the cankerworm infestation by banding your trees.

Thunder Road Marathon, Dec 13

LADIES and GENTLEMEN, START YOUR ENGINES!!!
Thunder Road Marathon to Come Through the Plaza Midwood Neighborhood
Saturday, December 13

Get ready for Charlotte’s Fourth Annual THUNDER ROAD MARATHON and AMICA INSURANCE HALF MARATHON as the race participants run right through your neighborhood on Saturday, December 13th! The Thunder Road Marathon races are themed after the popular 1958 NASCAR movie and pay tribute to Charlotte’s stock car racing roots. The Marathon and Half Marathon course will take the expected 4,000 runners that come from 46 different states, on a scenic tour of the beautiful and historic neighborhoods of this great city, beginning and ending in Uptown Charlotte!

Runners will begin this amazing adventure at 8:00 a.m. on College St. and they will come into your neighborhood between 10:00AM and 2:00PM. The Thunder Road Marathon is a 26.2 mile course with the top runners finishing in just under two and a half hours while the average runner covers this distance in just about four hours. For specific road restrictions and times, please go to www.runcharlotte.com and click on the “Community” tab.
Here’s where you come in! We want you, your family, your friends and your neighbors to come out that morning and cheer on the runners! Show them what this city and this neighborhood are all about! Plan a block party at a neighbor’s house along the course: break out some music, have some breakfast and best of all, support the runners as they run by! Be creative – make posters, dress up, create a mix CD with up beat music! Whatever you do, your presence and support will give the marathon participants the encouragement they’ll need to help them get to the finish line!

For more information on road restrictions or how you can get involved in your neighborhood, please visit www.runcharlotte.com.
Hope to see you on race day!
Enthusiastically,

Nicole and Scott Russo
